Best Sidewalk Cafe Ever: Pizzeria La Perla
We had just finished our tour of the Goethe House in the town of Weimar. We were hungry and ready for lunch on July 17 last summer. All we had to do was glance across the cobblestone street. Voila! There was a lovely sidewalk cafe called Ristorante “La Perla” Pizzeria. We took seats outside with a view of the Goethe House and the Stiftung Weimarer Klassik Headquarters. Our party of three was waited on right away by a congenial waiter who presented us with menus. We ordered pizza and salads naturally, but since it was a bit cool though it was sunny we asked for bowls of tomato soup. As a nice touch, the bowls were decorated with drawings of the busts of famous Weimar residents from Germany’s storied past. We sat there as long as we could watching the horse and buggy rides trot past while we snapped photos. Obviously Goethe never ate pizza here, but he must have enjoyed the same view.
